Ten Hag won’t let Man Utd defender go as he’s ‘impressed’ and will have him extend his deal
Erik ten Hag has reportedly been ‘impressed’ by Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and the manager has decided he won’t be allowed to leave.
After a couple of seasons as the starting right-back at Old Trafford after joining from Crystal Palace, the last two years have seen Wan-Bissaka behind Diogo Dalot in the pecking order.
After playing 35 Premier League games in his first season and 34 the following campaign, Wan-Bissaka played a combined 39 league games in the past two seasons.
That he’s out of favour has led to Palace interest, as reported by The Sun. It’s no surprise that they’re keen on seeing him return to Selhurst Park given how good he was in the buildup to his £50million move to United.
But, despite having not been a regular starter of late, the full-back seems to have done enough to get the backing of Ten Hag. Indeed, The Sun reports the manager has been ‘impressed’ by the performances of Wan-Bissaka.
As such, Palace will have ‘no joy’ in their attempts to bring him back to the club, as the manager has made his decision clear to keep the defender.
Wan-Bissaka would be out of contract next summer, when he’d be able to move to another club for free. However, United have the option to extend his deal for a further year, and Ten Hag is apparently ready to take up that option.
It’s a show of faith from the manager, who could have allowed him to leave the club when his deal was up. But Wan-Bissaka stepped up last term, especially when Dalot was unavailable, and Ten Hag was clearly happy with his performances.
There could still be some defender moves at Old Trafford before the window closes. They’ve been heavily linked with Monaco defender Axel Disasi, with a recent report stating they were ‘closing in on’ that deal.
The Sun suggests while Ten Hag ‘wants’ to sign the defender, both the fee he’d command and United’s takeover, which is still yet to be resolved, are making things ‘difficult’.
It’s stated United remain on alert for the deal, though Arsenal and Chelsea are both waiting in the wings as well. As such, it might be tough for them to secure a deal with Premier League rivals also circling.
