AS Monaco right-back Vanderson has described interest from Manchester United and Barcelona as “cool” after the summer transfer window closed.

There were reports towards the end of last season that the Brazil international was attracting interest from Premier League sides Man Utd and Aston Villa.

And then in June there were claims in Spain that the Red Devils had made an approach for the defender and would be competing with Spanish giants Barcelona for his signature.

There were still rumours at that time that Man Utd could allow Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave the club in the summer transfer window but Erik ten Hag sees him as a key member of his squad now.

Man Utd finished the transfer window without a new right-back and when pressed on links to the Red Devils and Barcelona, Vanderson told Brazilian publication Trivela: “It’s cool. Knowing that even if it’s nothing definitive, knowing that the work is recognised, even if it’s not so official, but it’s cool.

“The biggest clubs in the world, everyone knows. It’s great to know that your name is mentioned in big clubs.”

When pointed out that he might be well suited to the Premier League, Vanderson added: “Yeah. It’s a great league. Everybody knows. I have goals of maybe after a great career here at Monaco, a change too.

“But today is about defending the colours of Monaco.  Not much to talk about. We have personal goals to achieve in Europe. It’s letting it happen. Work and soon what you dreamed of can happen. But today, it’s the colours of Monaco.”

Instead of selling Wan-Bissaka, there are rumours that they actually want to negotiate a new contract with the former Crystal Palace right-back.

Fabrizio Romano told his Caught Offside column: “I can confirm reports that the club want to discuss a new deal with Aaron Wan-Bissaka soon. Talks will follow soon to negotiate a new contract, and Wan-Bissaka will give priority to Man United.

“It’s quite an impressive turnaround for the former Crystal Palace defender, as last November he was in the list of players set to leave, but he did an excellent job when called upon, and it looks like he’s now considered a key part of Erik ten Hag’s project.

“More has also been written about Jadon Sancho and the situation with Chelsea in the summer, but while Ten Hag may have his issues with how the player has been training recently, my understanding is that Chelsea never entered into such details.

“The key point is that Cole Palmer was always their top target, they focused on signing him instead and there was never anything advanced with Sancho.”
