Man Utd: Ten Hag’s two-man shortlist revealed as club ‘will listen to offers’ for ‘exposed’ defender

Man Utd will reportedly consider signing a new right-back this summer as they ‘will listen to offers’ for Aaron Wan-Bissaka before next season.

The defender signed for Man Utd for around £50m from Crystal Palace in 2019.

He has always been pretty solid defensively but he has sometimes received criticised over his poor work going forward.

Speaking in 2021, Danny Mills claimed Wan-Bissaka’s weakness was “exposed” by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when United played with wing-backs.

“He’s always been a decent defender one-on-one, but he’s never been massively comfortable on the ball,” Mills told Football Insider.

“It puts him in a position where you have to be better on the ball than defending one-on-one.

“You’ve put him in a position to expose his weakness rather than to exploit his strengths.

“That’s not particularly good management. You’re asking a player to do what he’s not very good at.”

Diogo Dalot has often been Erik ten Hag’s preferred option at right-back this season, but Wan-Bissaka has played regularly since the World Cup.

Wan-Bissaka is reportedly still ‘seriously thinking’ about ‘quitting’ Man Utd when the summer transfer window opens later this year. Crystal Palace and West Ham United have been linked with him in recent months.

The Athletic are reporting that a ‘new right-back is next on the list’ after Man Utd sign a striker and a ‘midfielder in the style of a No 8’.

They claim United ‘will listen to offers’ for Wan-Bissaka, while Dalot is in ‘talks’ over a new contract as his current deal is up in 2024. The report states.

‘Should those two positions be sorted, a new right-back is next on the list.

‘Aaron Wan-Bissaka has done well in the second part of this season but United will listen to offers for him should there be interest. Talks are ongoing over a new contract for Diogo Dalot, who also plays the position.

‘An attacking right-back will come on the agenda if Wan-Bissaka is sold.

‘Exploratory talks have been held about Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard, whose contract expires in 2024, while Denzel Dumfries has changed agents in anticipation of a possible transfer from Inter Milan — Ten Hag is known to be an admirer of his compatriot.

‘The Netherlands international has taken on representation with Yalcin Sarica and John Morris at Wasserman.’

When it comes to a new forward, Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane is in the ‘thoughts’ of Ten Hag.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani and Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund are also mentioned as potential targets for Man Utd this summer.
