Liverpool ‘revive’ interest in Brazilian wonderkid as Klopp targets next midfield addition
Liverpool are said to have revived their interest in Fluminense midfielder Andre as Jurgen Klopp desperately searches for a midfield solution.
The Reds have been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia as Klopp will now switch his attention to alternative targets.
Although their search for a new midfielder could expand beyond Europe as they are being linked with Brazilian midfielder Andre once again.
According to Sports Mole, Liverpool are set to ‘revive’ their interest in Andre after they were linked with the 22-year-old earlier this summer.
His contract with Fluminense runs until 2026 and so the Brazilian club are in a strong position to negotiate with Liverpool.
The holding midfielder is well-known for his off-the-ball prowess as he has won an average of 2.3 tackles per game for Fluminense this season.
Liverpool could certainly do with a player of his profile to complement their other attacking options in the middle.
Andre has spent his entire career so far with Fluminense after progressing through their youth ranks as a youngster.
Since turning professional, the midfielder has racked up 145 appearances for the club and he has also been capped by Brazil.
Jamie Carragher didn’t hold back in his assessment of Liverpool’s transfer window after they missed out on Caicedo and Lavia.
“It’s been an absolute mess! It’s a joke…embarrassing!” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“If Chelsea buy both of those, I think there’ll be massive questions asked at Liverpool, because of what’s happened in this last week. This is very un-Liverpool-like.
“Chelsea we know spend big money, but to beat Liverpool to both players would be absolutely stunning.
“The biggest problem about it is that Liverpool have known they needed midfield reinforcements since about August last season, 12 months ago.
“People think I defend FSG – I’ve got no relationship with them at all. But this is not on the owners. This is on the structure of the football club when you go back two years when Liverpool were the model for every team in Europe – not just the Premier League – to follow.
“When Liverpool were winning the league, getting to Champions League finals, what are Liverpool doing? They’re not spending as much money as other teams, but they’re producing these players.
“Yes, they’ve got a great manager, but they had a guy called Michael Edwards at the top of the club as the director of football, a transfer committee, whatever name you want to put on it, beneath him. It worked well.
“He left. His number two then took over. He was in the job for six months. He then moved on. You have to ask the reasons why these people are actually moving on from the football club. I don’t know, I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.”
