Liverpool prepare to lose yet another crucial midfielder before signing reinforcement for £26m

Liverpool are reportedly ready to listen to offers for Thiago Alcantara this summer, and there’s a belief that £26million could land them Fluminense midfielder Andre.

The Reds have been no stranger to midfield moves this summer. They signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, given Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner were to leave on free transfers.

Since then, usual starters Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have been sold to separate Saudi Arabian sides. As such, more exits would be rather damaging, and the Reds surely need to recruit in the middle of the park.

However, according to Anfield Watch, Jurgen Klopp is ready to listen to offers for Thiago, who, when fit, is an important player in the midfield.

That makes the decision to let him go seem somewhat insane. Liverpool are already down on numbers in the centre of the park, and since the latest two midfielders to leave were important ones, why on earth would they want to ship out another?

They’re just making things harder for themselves at this point. In any case, they are making inroads in adding to the midfield corps.

Anfield Watch states sources in Brazil suggest £26million could be enough to complete the signing of Fluminense midfielder Andre.

Anything less than that fee, and they’d apparently not allow him to leave until the winter transfer window. There’s a chance that the Liverpool aren’t given the option to sign him until then anyway.

Indeed, South American football expert Tim Vickery believes they’ll want him for the remainder of their Copa Libertadores campaign, given they’ve never won the tournament before.

As such, if they continue to progress through the competition, they’ll not entertain the idea of selling their star. Even if they’re knocked out after the quarter finals, the window to sign Andre could be a small one.

With that being said, the decision for the Reds to receive offers for Thiago seems all the more reckless. They might not even be able to replace him with the player they want, so they shouldn’t allow him to leave.

In actuality, they shouldn’t allow him to leave at all, given they’re down on numbers, but at least if they do manage to recruit one or two players, things won’t seem as bad. It’ll be very surprising if they don’t go after another midfielder or two either way.
