Liverpool are set to make an offer for Fluminense midfielder Andre ‘in the coming days’ as Fabinho closes in on a move to Al-Ittihad, according to reports.

The Reds have already brought in Alexis MacAllister from Brighton for £35m and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig in a £60m deal to reinforce their midfield.

Jurgen Klopp allowed Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner to leave in the summer transfer window with Liverpool looking to inject some fresh energy into their midfield area.

Klopp’s midfield came in for more criticism than other areas of the Liverpool team last season after making a terrible start to the 2022/23 campaign.

And it now seems likely that Liverpool could wave goodbye to Fabinho and potentially Jordan Henderson with both players subject of interest from Saudi Arabia.

Fabinho has been left out of the Reds squad travelling to their training camp in Germany after a “serious offer” was made for the Braziliian.

Al-Ittihad have offered £40m for the midfielder and The Guardian have reported that Fabinho is now ‘likely to move on’ this summer.

Henderson’s future is not so clear cut with ‘no bid for him as yet’ despite rumours that he could receive as much as £700,000-a-week from Al-Ettifaq, the team managed by his former team-mate Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool could need to bring in another couple of midfielders if Fabinho and Henderson leave, with Brazilian journalist Emmanuel Luiz claiming that they are set to make a move for Andre at Brazilian side Fluminense.

Luiz wrote on Twitter: ‘URGENT: Liverpool enters the fray and will present an official proposal for midfielder André (Fluminense) in the coming days.’

The 21-year-old has played over 100 times for Fluminense and already been capped once by Brazil and the defensive midfielder could prove to be a relatively cheap option for Liverpool.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is baffled why the potential huge wages on offer to Henderson in Saudi Arabia “has sparked outrage”.

Fowler wrote in his Daily Mirror column: “It is Jordan Henderson’s supposed wages which has sparked the outrage. I’ve never quite understood why footballers’ wages are such a sensitive topic, while the billions earned by financiers are never questioned.

“Let’s get one thing clear though. I’m not going to condemn Jordan, Steven Gerrard or anyone else who has gone to work in Saudi Arabia, or is thinking of doing so. Not because I’m taking the money too – that’s simply not true.

“As I’ve explained before, I have taken a job in the league below the Saudi Pro League because I am ambitious to become a manager, because I want to prove myself. I’ve not been been given that chance in the UK.”
