Andre was a summer transfer target for Liverpool.

Liverpool have had a bid rejected for Fluminense midfielder Andre as they look to sign the Brazilian before the transfer deadline, according to reports.

The Reds signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai earlier this summer to cover the losses of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

However, the unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia meant that two more midfielders were needed.

After losing out on deals for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea, Liverpool got an £18m deal for Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo over the line.

But they are still looking for at least one more deal before the window shuts with Fluminense’s Andre emerging as their latest target.

The 22-year-old, who has one cap for the Brazil national team, has made 145 appearances in all competitions for Fluminense since making his debut in September 2020.

Brazilian journalist Emmanuel Luiz yesterday insisted that personal terms have been agreed between Andre and Liverpool after he turned down Manchester United.

“Manchester United went to Andre’s camp to talk to them about a possible negotiation. What they said [was] the player has personal terms agreed with Liverpool, personal already agreed. That’s done,” Luiz told RedmenTV.

“The player said to Fluminense, the situation today – I called some guys close to Andre – and they said to me, Andre said to Fluminense ‘I want to go to Liverpool, I want to go, I have personal terms agreed’. That’s fine but what Fluminense said [was] we are not going to say right now because of the Copa Libertadores [which does not end until November] that we already know.

“So Andre said ‘I’m going to talk to them [Liverpool]”

But now ESPN claim that Liverpool have had a €30m (£26m) bid ‘rejected by the Brazilian club’ for the midfielder and the report adds that the Reds ‘want Andre to join them before the transfer window closes’.

However, Fluminense ‘are reluctant to let the Brazil international leave before the end of their season’ and the club’s hierarchy have ‘informed Liverpool that even if they up the offer for Andre they would not allow to player to depart now’.

The report continues:

‘Having seemingly missed out on Andre, Liverpool will look to find another candidate to strengthen their midfield line.

‘Sources told ESPN that Jurgen Klopp’s side will not make a move for Andre in 2024.’
