James speaks on Man City

David James has suggested that Gabriel Jesus would be better off rejecting Arsenal so he could have a “shared role” alongside Erling Haaland at Man City.

Jesus has been heavily linked with a move away from Man City ahead of this summer. This comes following Haaland’s arrival at the Etihad.

With the 21-year-old joining from Borussia Dortmund, Jesus would likely only be a bit-part player at City next term. He has been involved in 16 goals from his 28 league outings in 2021/22.

Champions League already diminished before BT Sport’s boyband aesthetics

Arsenal are among the teams interested in signing Jesus from Man City. This is even with the Gunners missing out on a place in the Champions League.

James has hinted that it would be better for Jesus if he remained at Man City:

“If you look at Man City players’ appearances this season, Bernardo Silva and Rodri have played 30-plus Premier League games,” James told Genting Casino (via Metro).

“But all the players in that attacking line-up have played around 25 games, so they’re not playing every week. Pep’s (Guardiola) rotation has worked perfectly in the sense that they won the Premier League again.

“I’d imagine Haaland would fit into that mould, he’s not going to play every game. Also with his injuries, there are question marks over whether he is physically capable of playing all the games.

“Jesus will have a shared role if he stays at Man City. They aren’t going to buy Haaland and start him every game, so there is still room for Jesus.

“Why would he want to leave? You’ve at the best team in England over the past five years, so would he risk it by moving somewhere else to Arsenal, who aren’t even in the Champions League?

“Or would he rather stay at Man City and try to get the Holy Grail, which is the Champions League?”

Elsewhere, Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has confirmed that “more players are coming in” this summer:

“I can confirm that there will be more players coming in,” he said (via City’s official website).

“We are looking to strengthen the team in the areas that we need strengthening. As you know, every season some players leave, and then we have to continuously refresh the team.

“Again, we will always look at improving and strengthening. I think we’ve made two very important additions already, but I anticipate we’ll be doing a couple more.”
